In any family, that would already be a problem. In The Addams Family… it’s practically the apocalypse.
This new production turns that premise into a tragic comedy that not only laughs at the difference between the “normal” and the “strange,” but at the musical itself. Grandiose songs, overflowing emotions, spectacularly exaggerated set design (very proudly excessive), and all the clichés of show business put under the spotlight… with black eyeliner.
It’s both a tribute and a parody at the same time.
